The Faculty of Arts of the University of Lausanne (UNIL) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher (SNSF) in Computational Linguistics or Corpus Linguistics with a focus on Latin in the Department of Language and Information Sciences.

The successful candidate will work on the project A world of possibilities. Modal pathways on the extra-long period of time: the diachrony of modality in the Latin language funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (project no. PP00P1_176778).
The team will consist of the PI and of a PhD student in addition to the postdoc. The main tasks of the postdoc researcher will be:
the development of suitable annotation schemesthe creation and development of a database and of its interfacethe creation and maintenance of the website of the projectthe annotation of Latin textsthe collaboration at various research activities connected with the project (publications and other ways of disseminating results)
PhD or equivalent qualification in Linguistics or Computer Science with a specialisation in Computational Linguistics or Corpus Linguistics. The candidate’s PhD should have been completed no more than 5 years before the start date of the position (1st March 2019 or later).
The ideal candidate should show an outstanding proficiency in the development of digital resources and their application to the study of linguistics. She/he should also have a good knowledge of the Latin language in addition to excellent team-work skills.
excellent programming skills (e.g., Python) – at least three yearsgood skills in the treatment of textual corporaexperience with machine learninggood knowledge of syntactic and semantic languages (XML, HTML, RDF, OWL)knowledge of the TEI encoding standards for the edition of textsgood knowledge of the Latin languageexcellent communicative and team-work skills
